First book club meeting!

Hi everyone!

Our first book club meeting rapidly approaches! As a reminder, we’re reading Tuesdays With Morrie. Do you have any questions you’d like us to tackle?

Or–do you have any suggestions for our next book?

The Three Bookish Girls

Favorite Place to Read

Believe it or not, I am an “in the bed” reader. I have always loved “curling up with a good book”.  My bed is currently set up as a daybed when fully made which gives me lots of pillows and comfort while reading. Often I am joined by my furry friend, Tinsel, during this quiet time. He “helps” me read by pushing the book closer to my face so that he can lay on my stomach.

Following up on my dear sisters’ posts about music while reading, I prefer silence when I am reading novels. If I am studying, then I will put on some classical music, but instruments only, no words becasue it distracts from what I am reading.

Finding the best spot and atmosphere in which to read makes reading that much more fun! Find your spot and you will be hooked on books. 😀

Question: Do you jot down new words and look them up later, or do you look them up right away as you read?

My answer: I jot down new words if I can figure out what it means in context, but if I cannot figure out the word, I will look it up right away so that I can understand what I am reading.

November’s Selection: Tuesdays with Morrie

Most people have heard about, and read, our November book, Tuesdays With MorrieBut that doesn’t diminish it’s suitability for Three Bookish Girls!

We are planning on alternating sacred/secular books each month, starting with the secular, although Tuesdays With Morrie also has a definite religious angle. As Catholics, we study the Four Last Things–death, judgment, hell and heaven. So Morrie can facilitate conversation on how we, as young Catholic women, can prepare for those things here and now.

Have you read the book? Do you have questions you’d like to see us discuss? Leave a note in the combox!

Hello world!

Why, hello there!

You have stumbled upon Three Bookish Girls, a blog about–well, it’s about three girls who read. A lot. And we write about what we read, what we want to read, what we liked, what we didn’t like….essentially, anything connected with books is fair game for discussion here.

We’re all in our twenties, and met through our fantastic Catholic parish, St. Patrick, here in Columbus, Ohio. We’re all members of the Dominican Laity, as well as St. Patrick’s 20s group. So we’re all Catholic, and all pretty devout. That means that religious books will get reviewed here often. But if you’re not into that, then you can just skip them, although we hope you read everything we write! For more about each of us, check out the “About the Girls” page.

We also exist as a “real” bookclub–we meet once a month to discuss the book we’re currently reading. That book will be posted here, and a list of all the books we’ve read is on the “Book Selections” page at the top of the blog. Future books will also be posted here (as we decide them, that is).

We read, we write, we pray. That about sums it up.

It's Us!
