Here are some of our favorite books, guaranteed to be good reading!

Emily: Well there are many books I love, so this is always hard. But here are things I always recommend to people :

  • All of Jane. Entirely non-negotiable
  • A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens
  • Mrs. Dalloway, by Virginia Woolf
  • The Hours, by Michael Cunningham
  • Til We Have Faces, by C.S. Lewis
  • The Year of Pleasures and We Are All Welcome Here , by Elizabeth Berg
  • Outlander, by Diana Gabaldon
  • Helen of Troy, by Margaret George
  • The Narnia books, by C.S. Lewis
  • The Divine Comedy, Dante
  • Shakespeare!!! Pick! (Well, the histories can be a bit dry, so maybe don’t start with those)
  • Crossing the Threshold of Hope, by Bl. John Paul II
  • Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver
  • Kristin Lavransdatter,  by Sigrid Undset (a third order Dominican and Nobel Prize winner!)
  • On Being Catholic, by Thomas Howard
  • Death on a Friday Afternoon, by Fr. John Neuhaus (transcendent–perfect Lenten reading)
  • The Big Stone Gap series, by Adriana Trigiani. These are my people! (Well, the Scots. And the Italians. Not the mountain men.)
